It's remarkable how accepting this drama portrays the small Montana community toward its gay residents; there doesn’t seem to be a single dissenting voice. There's no trace of the expected religious hesitation when Arye Gross ("Henry") leaves his successful career in New York to care for his sick grandfather. Upon arriving, he has to revisit connections with "Dean" (Tim DeKay), someone he had a crush on in high school, and with "Pike" (Erik Schweig), who runs the general store and has been tending to his grandad. It’s almost unbelievable – this town of roughly a dozen people seems to have about a quarter of its population identifying as gay, which only contributes to the overall absurdity. The performances are largely stiff, with Nan Martin providing an exception as the nosy but well-intentioned "Widow Thayer." While the film doesn't attempt to present any visual appeal in depicting the romance, it also fails to offer anything fresh or original regarding its characters. I’m not entirely certain whether they ended up together or if he simply went back home – honestly, I wasn’t particularly invested either way.
