I didn't realize there were any Christmas movies left to uncover, but this one turned out to be quite delightful. Harry Carey, C. Aubrey Smith, and Charles Winninger portray three prosperous businessmen who’ve become disillusioned with people in general. Hoping to rekindle some of that lost faith, they each toss a wallet from a window—it contains a business card and ten dollars—and then simply observe what happens. Two of the wallets are returned without any money missing: one by "James" (Richard Carlson), who wants to be a singer, and another by "Jean" (Jean Lawrence), a nurse. The older men bring them together, and things seem to be progressing nicely until something unfortunate occurs, leading all three gentlemen to appear in a more ghostly form within the narrative. “James” starts to experience some success with his singing career, but he also encounters "Arlene" (Helen Vinson), an ambitious producer, and they must work together with "Jean" to restore balance before it's too late—for everyone involved. Carlson performs several acceptable songs; Maria Ouspenskaya is charming as their housekeeper, “Madam Tanya,” and the emotional tone is handled effectively, present but not overly sentimental. Those who tend toward skepticism might consider the conclusion somewhat underwhelming, but considering I hadn’t even encountered this film until today, I found it to be easygoing, pleasant, and definitely worth seeing.
