If you aren’t needing things to make perfect sense or follow a clear path, then this is an acceptable thriller. With major studios and acclaimed directors—along with popular actors—focusing on comic book adaptations and stories set in bleak futures, it's disheartening to see older stars being overlooked. They seem to be attempting to maintain their recognition by appearing in smaller films directed by less established or new filmmakers. This feels like their best option for staying relevant, though it’s unlikely these movies will succeed at the box office. And this film falls into that category. As expected, Michael Douglas delivered a good performance, but the narrative had numerous potential directions, which led viewers to question choices and wonder about alternative approaches. It's generally agreeable entertainment, with similarities to 'No Country for Old Men,' since it centers on just two men in a desert setting—a very limited cast. Adapted from ‘Deathwatch,’ the story is straightforward but features engaging characters. The plot contains many foreseeable elements; however, the acting and appropriate settings are what hold your attention. This appears to be an ideal project for Michael Douglas given his age, though the 'War Horse' actor also did well in his part. It’s a fairly unremarkable film, perhaps just slightly better than average. You won’t regret skipping it, but trying it out wouldn’t necessarily be a mistake either. 6/10
