It's difficult to find new things to say about this movie. I could honestly use every positive descriptor imaginable and still fall short of describing just how remarkable it truly is. It embodies the concept of EPIC, far beyond a simple historical setting. The record for Oscars awarded in 50 years makes sense when you consider that those other films didn’t even include acting awards and had more categories to judge. I initially saw this as a child and had trouble staying awake until the very end late at night. Despite lacking the visual grandeur of something like The Ten Commandments, it quickly became one I've returned to repeatedly. Everything about this film appeals to me – from Heston’s tough, understated performance and Boyd’s swagger, to the well-developed supporting characters, the breathtaking scenery, Rozsa’s powerful music, the beautiful costumes, and of course, the impressive action sequences. This is a flawless work that doesn't feel like it lasts almost four hours.
