This is a charming film. Even though I don’t have any personal experience with what’s happening in *'Belfast'*, it’s an enjoyable movie to watch—despite dealing with some difficult real-life situations. At roughly 90 minutes, the 2021 release has a lot of warmth and humor; I found myself laughing quite often. Young Jude Hill is really the standout, delivering a wonderful performance as Buddy, which is remarkable for an 11-year-old! The interactions Buddy has with all the other characters are endearing, particularly those involving Ciarán Hinds and Judi Dench—wait, that was Judi Dench?! I didn’t realize it until after the credits rolled, which just goes to show how believable her portrayal of a Northern Irish grandmother is... or maybe I need to get my eyes checked. Jamie Dornan and Caitríona Balfe also deserve recognition for their contributions in this very good film from Kenneth Branagh and company. The intended viewers, as well as others, will surely love it. Also, the decision to use black-and-white is a nice touch.
