I really liked this movie. To begin with, I wasn’t familiar with Liberace at all before seeing it—just his name—so I don’t have any idea how truthful it is, or what was fabricated or amplified for dramatic effect. That didn't prevent me from finding it entertaining, however. Michael Douglas and Matt Damon carry the film considerably, delivering outstanding performances, particularly Douglas. Their pairing felt spot-on; it was ideal casting. Rob Lowe gave me a few laughs, though I’m not certain that was intentional—it wasn't meant as criticism of his acting, but rather concerning with the portrayal of Dr. Jack Startz. Debbie Reynolds and Dan Aykroyd also have parts, although they are fairly minor roles for such recognizable actors. The film is visually appealing; it might be a bit lengthy overall, but that didn’t detract from my enjoyment too much. *Behind the Candelabra* is a solid biographical film.
