The movie starts with an intriguing element—the butterflies! Many assume this is a horror film, but it’s more accurately described as fantasy-horror. The director identifies it as having supernatural elements, and while you might question the significance initially, watching the film reveals its impact, especially the surprising twist at the end. It's a solid movie with a strong cast. This represents Jacob Tremblay’s return to acting following his impressive debut in the Oscar-nominated 'Room'; he delivers another excellent performance, although it may not garner widespread recognition due to the different tone. Kate Bosworth deserves particular praise for her leading role; she gives an outstanding performance unlike anything I've seen from her before. After experiencing a tragic loss, a couple decides to adopt an eight-year-old boy named Cody, hoping for a fresh beginning for all of them. However, they soon discover that Cody possesses supernatural abilities. They initially exploit these powers but also overlook his needs. This situation doesn’t last, as a disturbing incident occurs and is followed by similar events. The rest of the story focuses on their attempts to rectify things, raising the question of whether it's even possible. The film surpasses what its rating suggests. However, it feels like an adaptation of 'Oculus', though not overly frightening or gentle in its storytelling. I believe the ending would have been more effective if the movie had leaned further into fantasy and aimed for a family audience with children. It seems the horror elements were primarily used to draw in adult viewers. The film is suitable for most audiences, excluding very young children. Ultimately, the conclusion made me view it positively because I think many people can relate to that experience from their own lives—I certainly did. 7/10
