I wanted to share my impressions of the new movie, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, without giving away any plot points. The film, which follows the 1988 original, keeps the same sense of humor. It combines a certain lowbrow appeal with some new faces that inject fresh energy into the story. A reference to Charles Deetz was a particularly smart and amusing touch, finding a way to include him even though the actor is no longer with us. The filmmakers managed to honor the first film while still sticking to the comedic style Tim Burton created in 1988. Michael Keaton returns as Beetlejuice and his comic timing and how the character has grown are spot on. He may look a little different, but he’s just as funny as before. Winona Ryder is excellent in her main role, making an easy transition from "Stranger Things." Jenna Ortega gives a memorable performance, really developing her character with skill. I had some doubts about Willem Dafoe's part at first, but it ended up being quite humorous and well-done. Bob’s appearance is sweet, and his character will likely be very popular. I expect viewers will want Beetlejuice baby toys after seeing this film. My only real complaint was a wedding scene that felt too long and brought to mind the style of the 1980s; it could have used some trimming down. It was disappointing not to see Alec Baldwin or Geena Davis, even for just a quick appearance, as their absence was pretty noticeable. The digital version of the sandworm from the original movie was fun, but the one in this film didn’t quite have the same appeal; it felt cheesy instead of thrilling. The anticipation surrounding Dolores, a new character, was interesting, but her story didn't quite deliver at the end, and I wished for a more satisfying conclusion. That said, considering there were 35 years between the first movie and this one, it’s pretty good. Ultimately, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice provided an enjoyable and funny time. I suggest seeing it in theaters to fully enjoy what it has to offer. It's a worthwhile addition to the series that preserves the spirit of the original while adding new things. So, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice!
