Marlon Brando demonstrates a surprising talent for comedy playing "Benson," a man who finds himself alongside the equally charming David Niven as "Jameson." Jameson, pretending to be an exiled prince on the French Riviera, is after the same kind of wealthy victims. They team up and achieve considerable success until Shirley Jones, appearing as "Janet Walker," enters the picture, setting off a rivalry between the two men who are now competing to be top dog. Niven seems perfectly suited for his role, and the three performers have good chemistry together, maintaining a brisk tempo and delivering numerous clever lines; Jones skillfully plays both men against each other. The film is well-made, though I don’t particularly care for the occasionally over-the-top physical comedy, but overall it's an entertaining movie that inspired many imitators—though, in my opinion, none quite measure up to this initial version.
