It’s an enjoyable film, one I could see revisiting, though a strong endorsement feels difficult. It seems as if Brendan Fraser had a collection of roles he wanted to inhabit, and Elizabeth Hurley similarly had a set of “wicked” characters she desired to portray, with the movie seemingly coming together by chance. The filmmakers really pushed the boundaries of absurdity, but it’s largely what you'd expect from the setup: Brendan Fraser is granted seven wishes in an attempt to win over his ideal partner, and things proceed as badly as one could predict. There are numerous amusing scenes alongside some awkward moments; the film manages a decent equilibrium between its religious themes and irreverence. However, while it’s well-made, it doesn't entirely stand up against comedies released more recently.
