The striking similarity between the younger “CC,” portrayed by Mayim Mialik, and Bette Midler in her role as the character’s older self is remarkable within this genuinely moving narrative about a friendship that lasts a lifetime. The foundation of their connection is laid when a young girl encounters "Hillary," played initially by Marcie Leeds and later by Barbara Hershey, and despite their differing backgrounds, they form a strong bond. One friend has an undeniable passion for the entertainment world but finds her ambitions haven’t quite materialized as time passes. Her companion, however, benefits from more advantageous circumstances and establishes herself in law while also raising a daughter with a man who captures both of their attention. The story becomes considerably more intense when difficult news forces them to re-evaluate their lives and confront what is now unavoidable. It's a film that demonstrates how challenging it can be to sustain friendships over many years. While they exchange letters and occasionally see each other, their relationship isn’t consistently easy or predictable, nor does it prepare them for the challenges life presents.
