This encounter sparks a desire within the group to give skydiving a try. Don Rickles portrays the school’s administrator, while Deborah Walley serves as one of the instructors. Adding to the mix is Harvey Lembeck, who leads a “menacing” motorcycle gang dressed in black. "Beach Blanket Bingo," released in 1965, marks the fifth installment in American International Pictures' beach party series—a prolific output of twelve films within just under four years, spanning from 1963 to 1967. I’ve only experienced one other film from this collection, “Dr. Goldfoot and the Bikini Machine” (1965) starring Vincent Price, and found it disappointing. This particular movie offers more enjoyment if you're seeking some simple, carefree beach-themed entertainment that is undeniably silly. What stands out most are Paul Lynde’s witty remarks, a sweet story involving Bonehead and a mermaid (Jody McCrea & Marta Kristen), the beautiful Malibu scenery, and the appealing female cast—particularly Bobbie Shaw Chance in a fur bikini and Donna Michelle as ‘Animal.’ If you're looking for authentic Southern California beach movies, I suggest watching the original “Gidget,” which came out in 1959 (not the sequels or Sally Field’s television adaptation). "Gidget" deserves its reputation as a classic; it is surprisingly thoughtful and free of silliness. Seriously. The film's length is 1 hour and 38 minutes, and filming took place at Malibu’s Surfrider Beach, Paradise Cove, and Leo Carrillo State Beach. GRADE: B-
