While *Battleship* didn't perform well financially, it can be a diverting way to pass the time if you’re looking for something easygoing. I actually saw this film in a movie theater during my honeymoon—probably not the best selection for our first shared cinematic experience, but luckily my wife was patient 😂. The filmmakers aimed high, hoping *Battleship* would become as successful as the *Transformers* franchise, but it missed the mark. It wasn't unexpected that a film derived from a board game centered around guessing an opponent’s ship locations wouldn't be a huge success. There wasn't much of a foundation to begin with, and adding aliens didn’t improve things significantly. The special effects weren't entirely convincing, and the performances and characters were often ridiculously poor. Nevertheless, *Battleship* can still provide entertainment if you go into it without high hopes. Taylor Kitsch is enjoyable to watch. Rihanna appeared in a film for the first time. Liam Neeson has a brief role. Aliens are destroyed. Just switch off your critical thinking skills and enjoy the silly action.
