It's a pleasant, straightforward film for families. People living in an apartment building facing destruction by property developers find their wishes granted with the arrival of small, robotic beings from another world. *Batteries Not Included* feels like it belongs among other fantasy films about aliens from the 1980s; while it shows its age, it remains above mediocrity because of its inherent appeal. There's a distinct pleasure in seeing unpleasant characters—specifically, ruthless developers and their thugs—experience consequences for their actions. Even though the ending is predictable, the film provides an enjoyable experience that leaves you feeling good and concludes with a warm, sentimental touch. With Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy delivering strong performances, the acting is reliable; even though Matthew Robbins is listed as director, it's clear that producer Stephen Spielberg’s influence is present throughout. A safe choice for family entertainment, 6/10
