Tim Burton’s "Batman" from 1989 turned out to be quite a letdown! While the costumes, sets, acting choices, camera work and score are all impressive, the plot falls short; it's unbelievable, silly, and ultimately just plain boring – a real waste of time. Tim Burton excels at creating striking visuals, but he didn’t manage to build an engaging narrative around them. What’s the point of a film that looks fantastic but doesn’t treat its subject matter with any seriousness? It perfectly illustrates how style can overshadow what really matters. A lot of the positive scores seem to come from people who saw it as children and are now just feeling sentimental about it. If they looked at it honestly as adults, considering the real Batman from the comic books' different eras, they’d probably have to agree that it isn’t a very good adaptation. It can be taken as an unusual version of Batman; a friend who works in comics suggested this was the only way he could enjoy it. But if you’re looking for a serious film about Batman, one that stays true to the character's history, "Batman Begins" (2005) and its follow-ups are much better – they completely overshadow this overrated and sleep-inducing failure. The movie runs on for too long at 2 hours and 6 minutes. GRADE: C
