_Barbarian_ stands out as a remarkably original and unsettling moviegoing experience. Before seeing it, I assumed I knew what to expect—a straightforward horror film with familiar elements—but my expectations were quickly overturned. The trailer essentially covered only the opening portion of the story, leaving me completely unsure of where things were headed. This feeling of uncertainty really amplified the pervasive sense of dread throughout the movie. A palpable paranoia develops, affecting both the viewer and the protagonist; you're constantly questioning everyone’s trustworthiness, even those who seem reliable. It’s uncommon in contemporary horror to find a film so focused on building suspense instead of relying solely on jump scares. While _Barbarian_ does incorporate some startling moments, they serve to heighten the extended sequences of tension and foreboding. The performances were generally superb. Georgina Campbell was exceptional. Bill Skarsgård’s portrayal felt occasionally stiff, but I suspect that was intentional, as his character came across as an endearing oddball. Justin Long truly made a memorable impression; his character provided some much-needed levity and someone the audience can actively dislike.
