It’s easy to see why this movie has faded from view; it really doesn't possess anything remarkable and isn’t worth revisiting when there are so many superior films available. It’s genuinely difficult to believe that the acclaimed director Peter Jackson, who commands such widespread respect now, began his career with something of this quality. Jackson seems to have been captivated by the low-budget horror flicks and tasteless comedies prevalent in the 80s, a period when tastes appeared to shift dramatically. The film is entirely amateurish, evident in the grainy cinematography and awkward, disjointed editing. While there are some special effects, nearly all of them feel cheap, artificial, and visually unappealing. Nevertheless, taking into account the limited budget and lack of professional resources, I believe Jackson did a reasonably good job. It’s possible that he himself would rather this film be forgotten! The plot is incredibly simplistic: aliens invade a small town in the countryside, searching for an easily accessible protein source—namely, humans. There's abundant gore, blood, and depictions of human remains; it’s a movie likely to disturb some viewers, and understandably so. It isn't really horror, but rather a comedy with action sequences and scenes that are repulsive, causing one to question the intelligence of certain characters who appear to act impulsively instead of rationally.
