People who appreciate Chris Rock’s rapid-fire jokes and clever comebacks may find this more enjoyable; otherwise, it occasionally veers into silliness. The story involves Rock, playing a character named "Jake," being enlisted by a sophisticated CIA operative, "Oakes" (played by Sir Anthony Hopkins), following the death of Jake's twin brother. Beyond the surprise that “Jake” had a brother—an agent no less—he’s not particularly courageous and relies on his wit to navigate situations. Consequently, he is plunged into a dangerous scenario involving terrorists who want to harm his fiancée and demolish New York City. The film follows a predictable path with explosions, action sequences, and hidden messages. Hopkins spends much of the movie seeming bored, which mirrored my own reaction as I watched. While some of Rock’s lines are funny, the story feels stretched out at two hours, and there's not much connection between the main actors. The special effects are ordinary, as is the storyline; it’s acceptable entertainment, but it won’t stick with you for long.
