It's an acceptable, though not remarkable, film intended for casual viewing. The core idea works well within its genre, which is something I appreciated. The opening scenes feel familiar, echoing countless other movies—the hero departs for war, Vietnam specifically, and returns to find his girlfriend has moved on, starting a family with someone else. The remainder of the story centers on Frank’s violent actions against those he deems problematic. Predictably, a new woman enters the picture, introducing a romantic subplot. She's trapped in an abusive relationship, naturally leading to more confrontations. A key narrative thread involves the murder of Frank’s closest friend and the perceived inaction of law enforcement. This prompts Frank to conduct his own inquiries, which unsurprisingly escalate into physical altercations. As expected, Frank eventually locates the antagonist, and a corrupt mayor is revealed during the investigation—a standard Hollywood trope. The confrontation with the villain inevitably culminates in more violence. That essentially summarizes the film: an extended and somewhat disjointed action movie held together by a serviceable script. Frank’s “investigation” seems less like detective work and more like wandering around, either provoking or stumbling into fights. If the dialogue is drowned out by loud popcorn eating, it's not particularly consequential; there isn't much of substance to miss. The film descends into absurdity towards its conclusion. A visibly injured Black man boards a bus and demands entry, with the driver complying without question. Then, another man, who happens to be Mexican, is given the keys to a different bus. Really? Despite all this, as a simple popcorn movie it provided some amusement and satisfyingly brutal fight scenes.
