The initial Bad Ass film wasn't truly awful; it was more entertaining than exceptional. This led me to think seeing the sequel would be worthwhile, especially considering Danny Trejo and Danny Glover together seemed potentially amusing. Sadly, this movie turned out to be somewhat of a letdown. Throughout the film, there was a sense of weariness. While Danny Trejo performed adequately, Danny Glover never quite came across as someone tough, and his jokes about bodily functions felt more in poor taste than badass. The plot itself was rather silly and lacked intelligence. Certain elements were just executed poorly. For example, Frank destroying a helicopter by tossing a grenade at it from inside a vehicle seemed incredibly clumsy, leaving me wondering what the point was. Similarly, when they ultimately take out (predictably) the main villain, Bernie claims he obtained his liver and suggests they preserve the body; the final scenes even suggest Bernie received a transplant. It's almost as if the writer genuinely believed this nonsense. Does anyone know anything about matching organs for transplants? And that bit with the ice pick—if something goes completely through your head like that, you’re not going to be walking around the next day with just an eye patch. Then there’s the diplomatic immunity issue. It simply doesn't work that way. Maybe you can avoid a few traffic citations, but you can’t commit crimes and expect to evade consequences entirely; at minimum, you would likely be deported. That kind of thing might have been acceptable in Lethal Weapon, but here it just feels foolish. Overall, I must admit I was rather let down by this movie. The first one was better, and even that wasn’t particularly impressive initially. There are a few enjoyable parts and some reasonably good fight scenes, so it's not a complete disaster, but still disappointing.
