‘Babette’s Feast’ is pretty much what you expect, without a doubt. I would describe this film as ‘good,’ although my engagement with it went up and down at different points. The religious elements and the musical portions didn't really hold my attention, to be honest, but there was still plenty enough to keep me entertained – particularly the characters, and the final feast is enjoyable to watch. Stéphane Audran gives the strongest performance; I appreciated her portrayal. The actresses playing Filippa and Martine, in both their younger and older roles, are quite good. Otherwise, the rest of the cast members tend to blend together in my memory as being acceptable. It really centers around Audran's character, it seems to me. I appreciate how the story develops and what it ultimately conveys; there’s a certain charm to it. I would have preferred a slightly faster pace because at times it does feel slow, even though it runs for just under 90 minutes. Still, it gets my approval.
