It’s an enjoyable film that I anticipate rewatching and would suggest to others. Among assassin movies ("Smokin' Aces," "Kill Me Three Times," and "Hanna" are examples), this is likely one of the strongest because it feels different. The familiar plot device of a character returning after an absence usually centers on readjustment, its impact on their family, and evolves into a darkly comedic portrayal of familial problems. It does touch upon that to some extent, but in a remarkable and concise manner. Addressing the central conflict of the movie could be seen as a resolution, however, since the core idea is that she brings her professional life with her, it's primarily about staying alive. Jessica Chastain, Colin Farrell, and especially John Malkovich deliver excellent performances during fairly realistic (though occasionally violent and disturbing) action scenes. Despite numerous elements surrounding the narrative, the central point – and it’s worthwhile – is simply Diana’s struggle to survive within an organization she understands will ultimately lead to either her demise or the end of the group itself. My only real reservation is that Diana Silvers seemed somewhat neglected, but I'm optimistic that a follow-up film will give her more prominence.
