Treadaway films are typically enjoyable, and this one doesn’t disappoint. The story begins with nurse “Sam” (Jodie Whittaker) being attacked by “Moses” (John Boyega) and his crew on an estate in South London. Because it's Guy Fawkes night, the noise and fireworks make it so no one notices what’s happening to her. Just as they are about to leave, some debris falls onto a nearby car, and "Moses" goes over to see if he can find anything useful. He doesn’t anticipate that something will attack him – something he won't want to fight back! In a moment of panic, he kills it and returns home with his gang to figure out what they’ve found. That was their initial error because shortly after, they are swarmed by numerous gorillas who seem to have used an excessive amount of toothpaste. It is then that "Brewis" (Luke T) suggests the idea that “Moses” – or possibly his clothing – has been marked with a pheromone by a female creature and those pursuing them are simply quite aroused following a lengthy journey through space. Faced with this uncomfortable possibility, "Moses" must either disrobe or devise a way to lead the creatures to their destruction. His representative probably would have advised against the first option, so he chooses the second... The production clearly had limited resources, but the writing and characters are genuinely amusing. Whittaker, Boyega, and “Pest” (Alex Esmail) deliver some of the sharply written dialogue with a pleasant ease as their absurd situation unfolds, dangerously, before them. It’s unusual for a recycling bin to play such an important role in a film. Treadaway has developed a silly partnership between himself and "Ron" (Nick Frost), and Jumayn Hunter also contributes well as the supposedly threatening gang leader “Hi-Hatz,” who maintains a marijuana farm on a flat that must have incurred enormous electricity charges. This is director Joe Cornish’s debut, and while it's simple in almost every way, it successfully combines themes of community and camaraderie with an extended episode of "Dr. Who."
