This wasn’t really to my taste. I do want to acknowledge that Willem Dafoe is excellent; he truly stands out. His work in 'At Eternity's Gate' remains the sole aspect of this film from 2018 that managed to hold my attention. The other actors didn’t disappoint, but they also didn’t particularly enhance the experience for me. It seems well-intentioned, but as a whole, I simply didn't find it enjoyable. What I struggled with most was the cinematography; there was an excessive amount of shaky camera work that seemed pointless and actually detracted from what was happening on screen—at least in my view. Aside from that, the film is visually appealing. I’m not particularly interested in art – it was a subject I disliked in school, to be honest – but even so, I anticipated something better. I'm pleased that Dafoe’s performance has been well-regarded because he certainly deserves recognition, but this isn't one I plan on watching again.
