I understand what _At Eternity's Gate_ was trying to achieve from a visual standpoint. However, it wasn’t something I found enjoyable. The way scenes were composed made me feel uneasy, which I realize was likely intentional, but still didn’t work for me personally. Dafoe certainly deserves praise; his best actor Oscar nomination is warranted, and Mikkelsen also did excellent work—the scenes featuring the two of them were by far my favorite part of _At Eternity's Gate_. But a lot of the rest felt like extended nature footage set to intensely discordant piano music, and I can’t say I liked it. _Final rating:★★ - It had elements that resonated with me, but ultimately didn’t come together well._
