Robert Powell, who isn't exactly known for being a standout performer, portrays a young psychiatrist lured into conducting interviews with four patients at an institution as part of a job prospect. Each patient shares an unusual story that could potentially clarify their situation—or perhaps those accounts are genuine. The segment featuring Peter Cushing, where he plays a tailor commissioned to create a suit from uniquely adaptable fabric, really stood out for me, though the others also have merit with elements of witchcraft, unsettling toys, and some familiar family conflicts. The storytelling is well-organized, with each narrative unfolding in an absorbing manner within the setting of the asylum. It’s worth noticing Charlotte Rampling's presence, and the music composed by Douglas Gamley works quite well to bolster what occasionally feels like weak writing. Considering it was filmed in 1972, I can’t help but think it might have had more impact if it had been made a few years prior, benefiting from the visual style of black and white photography.
