Amicus produced some worthwhile anthology films, and this one is among them. The introductory sequence, involving Herbert Lom and a disconcerting, albeit somewhat sluggish, robot doll, is quite odd and suggests potential for an ongoing show based on its premise. However, the individual segments are uneven in quality. The initial segment contains some disturbing imagery, though it’s not entirely clear how the narrator possesses such extensive knowledge of events. While the second story benefits from Peter Cushing's presence and presents a strange narrative, the resolution feels muddled. The story before the last is memorable primarily due to its casting choices; it seems counterintuitive to portray Britt Ekland as Charlotte Rampling’s violent counterpart. Certain musical cues are excessive, reaching a level of ridiculousness—for example, Herbert Lom's deliberate progress toward an elevator accompanied by an overly dramatic score that feels intrusive and jarring.
