The hype surrounding this movie was considerable, and it felt like it took a while to arrive. With the shift toward adapting video games into films, this one seemed delayed in joining the trend—perhaps that’s its drawback. Many viewers feel there are already too many movies relying heavily on special effects, and I suspect the screenplay wasn't as strong as Electronic Arts delivered for 'Need for Speed'. I hadn’t played the game previously, so my expectations were different from those who had been waiting a long time, but I still ended up feeling let down. I was unfamiliar with the characters or the world they inhabited, and after seeing it, I questioned why the game has such a large following since this film didn't impress me at all. It’s not really fair to compare different mediums, of course. However, the reality is that this movie ranks among the least successful major releases of the year. I initially thought it would be similar to 'Matrix', but with a more historical action-adventure feel. I believe the actors were well-chosen, but the rest of the film fell short. What bothered me most was the pervasive smoky visual style. The scenes set in ancient Spain had such a hazy atmosphere that it was difficult to clearly see what was happening. I’m hoping there won't be another installment, and if one is made, I would need something extraordinary to redeem the negative impression left by this first attempt. It’s acceptable for passing the time, but not particularly enjoyable or appealing. _4/10_
