It’s a strange film, but in a positive sense. This is the kind of movie that typically would feel emotionally releasing, yet it's too intense to actually provide that release, and instead repeatedly emphasizes its point, something I usually dislike; however, _Assassination Nation_ succeeds because of that intensity. It’s a very angry film, with only a tiny bit of what you might anticipate from the trailer appearing at the absolute end, but otherwise it's bleak. And in a good way—a way that functions well and prompts reflection—while still possessing all of the visual style one could desire; it just leaves you feeling guilty for even appreciating it. Do you enjoy _The Purge_ series but find its commentary too broad? Are you looking to feel bad about feeling happy?
