I really struggled to connect with this movie. "Jennifer," played by Amanda Brugel, is portrayed as a leading scientist working—seemingly alone—to prevent a water contamination crisis that threatens everyone’s survival within five years. She abruptly departs from their farmhouse, asserting she has found the answer, and then something occurs. The subsequent seventy minutes attempt to clarify this event, but I thought the whole premise felt incredibly forced and unbelievable. It seems her employers are worried about her psychological state due to the stress of her research, so they suggest a weekend break with her husband, "Jason" (Jonas Chernick), for her to recover. Their marriage is also evidently strained, and part of the narrative explores this alongside their visit with friends, "Elliot" (Shawn Doyle) and his expecting wife, "Sammy" (Natalie Brown), who contribute additional domestic drama to what I considered a rather dull story. The writing felt weak; the way these characters interact made me wonder how they could have possibly become friends in the first place. Despite her scientific achievements, "Jennifer" seemed quite difficult, and he appeared completely unremarkable. I attended what was presented as the film’s debut at the Glasgow Film festival—definitely not one of my more successful decisions.
