Coming up with fresh ideas for Santa Claus stories is a real challenge these days, but this one manages to stand out. The narrative revolves around Santa’s highly automated gift delivery system, utilizing a sleigh that bears a strong resemblance to the starship "Enterprise." To everyone's dismay, the youngest member of the Claus family – “Arthur” – realizes that one little girl won't be receiving her carefully wrapped bicycle! His father, "Steve," dismisses it as a simple technical problem, and his grandfather (the current Santa) is too weary to intervene. It’s up to Grand Santa, Arthur, and their traditional reindeer-powered sled—fueled by fairy dust—to get the bike to young “Gwen” before Christmas morning dawns. What follows are several amusing adventures as the older man – who brought Wilfred Bramble's "Steptoe" character to mind – and his eager young companion must travel across the world at great speed, locating a small Cornish village that shares its name with other places globally, all while evading authorities who increasingly believe they’re dealing with extraterrestrial visitors. A strong voice cast—particularly Bill Nighy and James McAvoy portraying our determined delivery team—delivers an engaging script effectively, complemented by appealing animation and a cheerful score from Harry Gregson-Williams.
