What makes Arlo the Alligator Boy so appealing is how distinct each character appears. It's a cartoon that celebrates being special, even if someone doesn’t fit conventional ideas of appearance or behavior. The musical numbers are significant and stick with you, the artwork is lovely to look at, and there are jokes throughout that seem geared toward grown-up audiences. Should If I Heart Arlo maintain this quality for its entire run, it has the potential to become a truly touching, funny, and accessible animated show.
