This new year has brought a genuinely enjoyable surprise with Argylle, managing to mix silliness and polish for a really striking moviegoing experience. Matthew Vaughn’s direction, along with Jason Fuchs’ witty script, delivers an exciting ride that completely disregards what you might anticipate. The film is full of surprising developments and features performers who are undeniably engaging, not to mention the third act's outrageously funny action sequences. This spy story, made complex then simplified, holds viewers through its playful style and constant momentum. It’s easily my top suggestion so far this year; seeing it on a big screen is something you really shouldn't skip. Rating: A-
