A group of American filmmakers embarks on an Arctic cruise setting out from Svalbard, intending to capture footage of the remarkable wildlife found in such a challenging location. However, they find themselves in a baffling situation when they wake up one morning to discover that the ship has seemingly been abandoned—a real-life "Marie Celeste" scenario. The engines are nonfunctional, the vessel is drifting near dangerous ice formations and cliffs, and the crew has vanished without a trace. Their distress calls go unanswered, leading them to believe their best chance of survival lies in launching their raft and reaching land. They fortunately locate a facility that initially appears promising for rescue, but it quickly becomes clear that something isn’t right, and perhaps they would have been safer remaining on the ship. The visuals and setting do manage to generate some feeling of danger, though that's really the extent of what this rather formulaic horror/sci-fi blend achieves. It suffers from notably uninspired performances, an overbearing musical score, and dialogue that’s filled with excessive, rambling conversations among the three men as they gradually become increasingly suspicious of everything around them. Ultimately, the core concept turns out to be fairly good—but it arrives too late in the film to save it from what feels like a predictable downfall. I believe there's a letter missing from the second word of the title.
