It's remarkable how much concrete we use—second only to water on Earth—and this film explores its presence in our world, stemming from humanity’s early use of adaptable stone for tools and shelter. While the movie doesn't trace that history all the way back, it employs some intriguing photographic methods to show just how integrated concrete is into modern existence. Certain visuals are quite inventive, particularly those depicting the breakdown of layered and crystalline rocks in a cascading display, and there are also sobering images of structures damaged by time, now looking like scenes from a conflict area. However, much of the narration doesn’t contribute significantly to overcoming the film's repetitive feel; after experiencing just a few aerial shots, it feels as though you’ve seen pretty much all there is to see. A shorter runtime—perhaps around thirty minutes—could have allowed for a more impactful presentation of the photography and its historical context, and the music contributes to a sense of monotony rather than enhancing the experience. The film does highlight varied architectural designs, both created by humans and found in nature, and it's easy to recognize that some are simply more pleasing to look at; still, it’s probably worth checking out.
