I have good memories of the Kevin Connor/John Dark fantasy films from when I was younger, and this final installment features Christopher Lee as "Alquazar," a malevolent sorcerer who deceives the infatuated Oliver Tobias ("Prince Hasan") into beginning a dangerous quest for the potent "Rose of Elil." This rose is supposedly needed to win the affection of the lovely Emma Sands ("Princess Zuilera"). During his travels, he experiences numerous events aboard a magic carpet, joins forces with a young urchin named "Majeed" (Puneet Sira), and confronts both magical occurrences and wickedness while attempting to complete his task. It's a familiar Arabian Nights narrative, boasting lavish costumes and scenery, and Lee delivers an excellent performance as the villain. The film is elevated by Milo O’Shea’s wonderfully subservient portrayal, along with appearances from Peter Cushing, Capucine, and a regrettably short sequence featuring Mickey Rooney; these elements shift the focus toward adventure rather than romance, and I found it to be quite entertaining.
