It’s disheartening to witness a film like 'Antebellum' fail, especially given the positive trend of Black horror and stories told from distinctive viewpoints that began with ‘Get Out.’ I worry that if there are too many unfavorable reactions to this type of movie, studios will simply cease making socially aware horror films altogether. The most significant flaw in 'Antebellum' is that the creators handled a deeply traumatic chapter in American history with such awkwardness that they inadvertently trivialized it.
