It’s a familiar refrain: “You got framed!”—that’s what people who’ve been arrested often claim. The opening music pretty much sums up the movie; the actors have returned for another go-around. Nolte and Murphy reunite as a police officer and an inmate, navigating a story that feels incredibly uninspired. Walter Hill is in the director's chair again, and thankfully his action sequences are the only thing preventing this from being completely awful. The entire production has the feel of a low-budget attempt to make money, with very little creativity involved; some scenes are even lifted directly from the original movie. A group of recognizable supporting actors appear, seemingly just there for a paycheck, although performers like Brion James, Ed O'Ross, Brent Jennings and Kevin Tighe do offer a sense of familiarity. Murphy and Nolte argue, fight, and use colorful language, which wouldn’t be so bad if the first film hadn’t already executed it more effectively. Ultimately, it’s an easy choice to just watch the original instead. 5/10
