Ani (played by Mikey Madison) has a job as a private dancer in New York City when her employer asks her to supervise some Russian visitors. This is how she meets Vanya (Mark Eydelshteyn). He’s intoxicated, high, and possesses considerable wealth; he wants a dance, and more—but that's not permitted at the club, so he proposes they continue their encounter at his lavish apartment the following day. Ani finds herself drawn to his youthful energy and, of course, his money. After several days pass, including an expensive sable coat and a trip to Las Vegas, they end up married. Then social media intervenes; Vanya's wealthy mother learns her son has wed someone she considers undesirable. Furious, she assigns Toros (Karren Karagulian), a local operative, to resolve the situation. He dispatches two enforcers to their home, and chaos immediately erupts. Garnick (Vache Tovmasyan) and Tom (Anton Bitter) are sent only to hold the couple until Toros can convince them to annul the marriage; Ani refuses, and Vanya is somewhat torn, as things quickly spiral out of control! The film begins promisingly with a diverting courtship between two actors who seem genuinely happy to be performing. Eydelshteyn’s performance is energetic and physically impressive, featuring plenty of sexuality and clever dialogue that uses language differences for comedic effect. However, once the second part of the story gets underway, it loses some momentum. Vanya's presence diminishes, and the narrative becomes less captivating as the rather mild-mannered thugs and the increasingly frustrated Ani attempt to get everyone to court before his mother arrives. This results in too much exaggerated acting from Karagulian and some increasingly unbelievable events, slowly deflating the film until it concludes somewhat unsatisfactorily. At its strongest, the first hour moves along briskly and offers a lighthearted critique of the sex industry and those who profit from it. It’s definitely worth seeing, but ultimately lacks the boldness of its initial ideas.
