It deserves recognition that Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard attempted something unconventional. However, I don’t believe they succeeded. Right from the initial scene, which resembled a segment from "West Side Story," we meet "Henry McHenry" (Driver), an American stand-up comedian who lacks humor, and that's where my reservations began. He is involved with singing star "Ann" (Cotillard), and eventually their child appears—portraying “Pinocchio” in a surprisingly convincing way, minus the growing nose. The family experiences some unfortunate events, but Driver finds hope when the baby possesses an almost heavenly voice, quickly achieving great popularity. It all feels overly dreamlike throughout, and it isn't helped by Adam Driver’s off-key singing, some rather unbelievable plot developments, and a conclusion that, while appropriate, arrives too late after a lengthy two hours and twenty minutes. I would have appreciated more of Marion Cotillard and her singing; as it stands, the film prioritizes its visual style and atmosphere to such an extent that the narrative is neglected. It didn’t resonate with me, unfortunately.
