The movie *Annabelle* turned out to be surprisingly dull. Considering its length of around 90 minutes, it really felt like it took forever to finish. Following the introduction of that unsettling doll in *The Conjuring*, I was hoping for something enjoyable, but it just wasn’t there. The actors involved didn't particularly stand out either, and that's partly due to the material they were given. Annabelle Wallis is clearly a more capable performer than what we see here, as is Alfre Woodard; they weren't bad, but I wouldn't have noticed them if I wasn’t already familiar with their work. There are only a couple of scenes that are even remotely engaging, and those moments are spaced very far apart – one appears early on, and the other concludes the narrative. My rating might be generous; if it were any longer, I probably would have rated it lower. It's just not a good film.
