Annabelle: Creation wasn't entirely disappointing, although it didn’t really grab me. The interwoven narratives concerning Samuel/Esther and the orphans felt hard to engage with, and the recurring reliance on young girls as central figures in these stories within this franchise is starting to feel predictable. However, similar to what I observed in The Conjuring 2, a standout performance emerges from one of the child actors. Talitha Bateman delivers a commendable portrayal; her character certainly experiences a lot of movement and displacement! Stephanie Sigman provides dependable work, but I would have appreciated seeing more of Miranda Otto’s depiction of Esther. There are further hints related to The Nun, which I'm genuinely anticipating as individual movies—she is by far the most unsettling and intriguing character in this series so far; let's hope those installments don't disappoint like these sequels to The Conjuring have done. When put beside the others, it’s the strongest of the Annabelle films, and I prefer it over the first one. A minor but welcome element is its incorporation of the song "You Are My Sunshine," which consistently brings Ole Gunnar Solskjær to mind—something Manchester United fans will understand. I found myself mentally reciting it each time it played; admittedly, that’s a fairly irrelevant detail.
