This film marks another chapter in 'The Conjuring' universe, acting as both a spin-off and the fourth installment overall. My impression of the initial movie, 'Annabelle', was that it was merely passable, but this one suggests the possibility of an ongoing series of earlier stories, potentially running alongside the main 'Conjuring' timeline. It doesn’t bring anything entirely fresh to the table, yet it isn’t a poorly made film either. I appreciated the setting – a solitary house nestled in the mountains serving as the backdrop for a story centered on several orphaned children. This is where the origins of the infamous doll from 'The Conjuring' are explored. The narrative follows a family involved in crafting dolls, and depicts how their lives unfolded after an unfortunate incident. A nun and some young girls become part of the household. When one of the children finds a hidden doll containing dark secrets, malevolent power is released. Later on, the movie explains what befell them and the doll as well, while also suggesting another prequel set in Europe might be forthcoming. I found it to be reasonably good; suitable for viewing once, particularly if you enjoyed the earlier movies. _5/10_
