The film feels out of step with modern audiences. Some comedies are crafted with care and offer something genuinely engaging, while others only hold appeal for those who experienced them during their initial release or when they were popular. I believe this falls into the latter category: it’s set on a university campus where the administration, aided by students, attempts to address issues within a student republic known for its troubles and low academic standards. Predictably, the beer-fueled and chaotic students will retaliate. This movie was clearly intended for rebellious young people during an era when that kind of attitude was trendy. The world back then was dealing with the consequences of the Sexual Revolution and early instances of substance abuse, yet some were still trying to maintain that revolutionary spirit. Now, nearly fifty years later, with most of the cast visibly aged, it feels distant from our current lives. It’s an old-fashioned film lacking in contemporary relevance. The one bright spot for me was Donald Sutherland's spirited and amusing performance; he’s a seasoned actor with an impressive career. Seeing him in this role is somewhat surprising given his present status, but he seems to be genuinely enjoying himself and the simple pleasure of acting. I don’t think the other actors did poorly either—they all performed adequately within the limitations of the material. They couldn't work miracles.
