I don’t need children in my life, especially not ones who are superficially appealing—those types bring nothing but complications...and I'm beyond the point where I want any of that. The prison movie has had a rough run over the years; there have been countless films, and their quality varies greatly. These days, viewers expect more from this kind of film—something with real depth, moving past predictable elements like sexual assault, brutality, surrogate father figures, or stories about finding friendship and being redeemed. Sadly, *Animal Factory* falls back on every tired trope associated with the genre, which is a shame considering how good the movie actually is. The main actors give strong performances, director Steve Buscemi demonstrates a sharp visual sense, and the film has an undeniable authenticity that draws you in and holds your attention. Still, there’s absolutely nothing fresh or original about it. However, if you're not already well-versed in prison movies, you might find something worthwhile here, and because of the high production values, it shouldn’t be dismissed. 7/10
