The film does fall into some predictable patterns, assigning problems that feel very human to a group of animals. They sit together in a formal setting, discussing their concerns with someone called "Dr. Clement," and the story becomes considerably more entertaining when an ape enters and things pick up pace. At its heart, it explores the idea of controlling or ignoring our natural impulses and the tendency to overthink what comes naturally—like a dog retrieving a bone—and I found the situation cleverly ironic. The animation style is somewhat basic initially, but as the narrative progresses and the characters develop, it does a decent job of showing these creatures with all their imperfections. There’s a line from one of the characters that really sums things up: “stop naval gazing and get on with your lives.” I enjoyed this film.
