Seeing two young women on bikes traveling through the French countryside initially seems pleasant, but it evolves into something unsettling. It’s worthwhile to watch if you want a glimpse of what rural France was like. Michele Dotrice, who is small in stature, stands out as the blonde character, while Pamela Franklin has an awkward haircut that doesn't suit her. She appears more comfortable in her subsequent film, “Necromancy,” which features Orson Welles and shows her with long brunette hair. Not long before this, she filmed another movie set in rural France, but on the northern coast—namely, "The Night of the Following Day" alongside Marlon Brando. Combining aspects of that film with those found in “In the Devil’s Garden” provides a sense of what to expect here. Four decades passed before it was recreated, starring Amber Heard, Odette Annable and Karl Urban, though the story moved to American girls traveling through Argentina. The movie has a runtime of one hour and thirty-nine minutes; filming occurred from August to October of 1969 in central France, south of Paris (Loiret and Loir-et-Cher), with studio work completed northwest of London.
