The trailer initially grabbed my attention; the concept of an older person feeling lost in today’s world and having difficulty adapting to current challenges is appealing. The present day must seem strange to him, yet still preferable to life a century prior, considering how far we've come. ....I noticed the average rating didn’t even meet the minimum threshold, which made me uncertain about seeing it. However, the description mentioned it was adapted from a New York Times novel, so that suggested some merit. It turned out to be perfectly acceptable. While the screenwriter clearly took the path of least resistance and avoided tackling many contemporary issues, you can sense his genuine feeling for the narrative. The film doesn’t articulate this well, but the core message about the importance of family comes across. And Seth Rogen is incredibly endearing in both roles. I mean, don't you just want to gaze into his eyes, stroke his face and hold him like a giant teddy bear? It wasn't the comedic drama I anticipated, but it’s fine for a lazy Sunday afternoon.
