The film didn’t quite live up to what it could have been; *Amundsen* ultimately falls short. It seemed like a really interesting subject for a biographical movie, focusing on the life of Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen. Everything was there for a truly exciting picture, but it didn't manage to achieve its full potential. My main issue with this is the way the narrative unfolds. The story is presented in a rather dull manner through other people’s accounts, and narrated in both the original language and English. Those aspects made it difficult to feel invested in the characters. I did find myself appreciating the actors involved. Pål Sverre Hagen delivers a strong performance as the lead, and Christian Rubeck is also good. The rest of the supporting cast are decent but not particularly striking, with Katherine Waterston standing out most prominently. The visuals are pleasing to look at, although the aging effects aren't convincingly done. Overall, it’s not something I would suggest watching.
