It evokes the feel of older Hammer Films productions. Like many who come back from military duty, this soldier finds himself without a place to live and still struggling. Returning to everyday life appears to be both desired and unfamiliar; he says he’s been gone two years, as told to the nun who discovered him unconscious in an alley after a fire at the homeless shelter where he was staying. The house itself is aged and falling apart. The soldier possesses practical skills and attempts to assist with repairs, though he resists the idea that it's needed. There’s something unsettling about the home, giving it an antiquated quality, yet somehow also making it feel welcoming in a peculiar way. I find myself completely baffled by this story, but still very interested to see where things go from here. It was a complete subversion of logic and a dismantling of conventional thinking. The ancient powers are certainly capable of inflicting truly horrifying experiences. I’ll definitely be watching it again...
